Melon Meloncholy
After last years dry summer, a dry fall, and a rather dry winter...this spring is following suit. The little rain we had previously has barely made a difference and I'm starting to feel rather desperate for a couple solid days of rain just to catch up, or even just a good storm.
The pumpkin patch has been spotty for germination, and I've found myself spot-watering to help it along, as well as adding a few extra seeds for good measure. On the flip side, the melons are starting to pop up quite well with these past few days of heat and hand watering. I'm quite determined to get at least one good melon for eating this year! So far the only one lagging behind is the "Tip Top" variety of cantaloupe. If at least one hasn't popped up by tomorrow I may just re-seed, just in case.
The growing season in Manitoba is generally dreadful just based on how short it is, but add to that these drought conditions makes it downright stressful some days. Oh well, wait and see...
