Trick Or Treat 2013
The day began with a costume, and a pumpkin carving.

Halloween feels like a rather lonely night for me. Sitting in the kitchen waiting for the next batch of ghouls to ring the bell or knock, desperately thinking how I need to get out of here. I am utterly tired of feeling like a guest wherever I am.

Despite waiting for Halloween all year, this years costume was a relatively last minute choice and not exactly how it was intended. Something quite classic is generally the route of my choosing, and perhaps the Cheshire Cat is somewhat of a classic. Had I chosen it earlier and had the time to order fabrics, it would have been nice to have a big cozy costume in the same character, perhaps more recognizable that way as well. Oh well. Perhaps next year? With any luck, by next Halloween things will be different and I'll be in a place of my own to decorate and feel comfortable in. Apparently it is very difficult to find an old shell of a building around here...

As Halloween winds to a close, I keep the pumpkins lit for as long as I'm awake, soaking in the warm (sometimes slightly burnt) pumpkin aroma that you only get this one time of year, and relaxing to Beetlejuice for the second time this spooky season. What better than a classic to end the night?

I had great intentions to make more posts about the little bits and things relating to this Halloween, from decorations that were made to treats to bits of swapped goods. It didn't happen. This October has not been a good one and the bit of energy I do have is just spent on trying to be excited, creating things in order to distract myself.

A lot of painted bits were in the works this year including one of my new favorites. While hurrying along in the Dollarama one day, I rushed down the craft aisle for a mere bottle of black acrylic craft paint, I spotted a round wooden pumpkin shaped cut out, ready for painting. I knew exactly what to do with it. It was two dollars, and it was mine. Often a time I have oggled over vintage cardboard die cuts and never being able to justify spending way too much on cardboard, this was the perfect opportunity to have such a style without the price. It was hand painted with mere dollar store craft paints and a little time.

That's all for now. It's technically Halloween here, my pumpkin is glowing, and my asthma is acting up. Spooky greetings to all and to all a dreary night.

Big Little Harvest

Halloween is mere days away and I'm still preparing, so look forward to another post or two before then. In the mean time, the weather is chilly and even a few flakes of snow falling. The weather forecast for Halloween, so far, is looking decent so that's something to look forward to.

I finally decided to take photos of this years crop of pumpkins before things are carved, cooked, and roasted. It was a big crop of little pumpkins again this year, with three larger "hybrid" seeds used from last years crop. The hybrid seeds grew so well! If you cross pollinate two different varieties do be sure to plant at least a few seeds the next spring, they WILL do well.

Finally, my last swap was sent out a while ago and received by my partner. It was a "evil or sweet cupcake" swap, so I made two spooky and sweet pieces to send. One was, of course, the cupcake, and I accompanied it with a "pumpkin ice cream cone" complete with jack-o-lantern faces.

Here's hoping everyone is enjoying this spook-tastic season!

The leaves are all about gone now, and there is even snow on the ground already. Though it won't stay, it looks awful, and adds to some recent woes. The mere few coloured photos I managed to get this fall is all I have to look back at now...

Winter here we come?

Seasons and Swaps

Life and things carry on. A couple more swaps were sent out, including the very last two swap lots of the season. One package to Denmark, and another to a fellow Canadian. I am still quite excited for Halloween (of course) but I also feel a little down lately. For no particular reason, I suppose. Though some vision problems put a slight damper on things, but that is life is it not?

What should I be for Halloween? I feel lacking in any classic yet exciting ideas...

I just feel...lacking, lately.

This post perhaps makes no sense, but my brain feels like it's not making sense either. Let us just try to immerse ourselves in this long fall weather, colours, and upcoming Halloween excitement...
