InvitationCelebration

Ahh, the big 5-0...Making a few little invitations for my Dad's upcoming birthday (surprise invitations, shhh!), and naturally I had to add an old photo of him. The photo is from '76, when he has 16. Ahh the good ol' days.

Now what to do for decorations...

A lovely day lounging by the old train in town...
Every day should be like this.

Olden

I was at my boyfriends parents farm, visiting, getting to know people and whatnot, and they have this old house that they had moved in from a nearby farmer who wanted it gone Naturally I ogled all the shabby goodness of it all; linoleum rugs, chipped paint, floor tiles, dark stained wood, and a layer of dust over most everything.
Some photos of the lovely old goodness...

Been Too Long

Goodness me, how long it's been...
Lots of things have happened since my last post I suppose...but where to start.
I have a fella. Yes, me...a socially strange lass who barely leaves the house. Who is this fella you may ask? My high school crush of all things. Funny how life works out, isn't it?

How about some photos?

My sister and I took a drive to a nearby town, if you can even call it a town now, it's even smaller than the place I live and there is no stores or even a post office. This town simply has a community hall and a church. At the church there were various buckets and watering cans filled with flowers. A lovely little surprise.

A clothesline of lovelies...Photos together, and postcard wonders.

The frame from a beautiful old (well aged) painting hanging in my room.

One of numerous teacups I acquired this year at a garage sale.

Quest for Cute +Around the world project

Well, I've decided that whenever we (finally) sell the house, I'm taking a trip. If we can be moved before September I'd like to go to Niagara falls for a few days. A good starter trip, and the prices I've been seeing have been quite reasonable. After the plane and hotel costs I'd have lots of room to go and see all the fun stuff.

That being said, I was thinking about what I'd pack and whatnot...a bit premature, I know, but I like to plan way in advance. First off I know I'd need to buy a groovy carry on bag, which is easy, I could easily take the old one I have from my Gramma, even though it is quite petite. I'm sure in my upcoming (hopefully) garage sale travels I'll come across a kids wheeled carry on bag for cheap, that seems like my most fun (and cheapest) option. On the Brandon classifieds there is actually one for sale for $8, Winnie the Pooh. To buy or not to buy =P I just don't want to have to ask my sister to pick it up. If I have to I'll go into a luggage/bag shop and see what prices are like. After all, I only need one little bag.

Bags aside, thinking back on what I'd put in that bag...I wondered about footwear. Which would I bring? My lime green Rocket Dogs are my automatic, I'd be wearing them when I got on the plain, but what alternative shoes could I bring in my bag that are light, practical, but still fashionably awesome? I have two pairs of flats, but I find flats a bit hard to walk in...the back always flips up on me and bothers me, perhaps that's just me though...The mary-janes I have now, are more indoor slipper type shoes, and definitely not water/rain appropriate, so those are out. So my quest begins for a simple, but still cute, pair of cheap mary-janes. Plain simple black in a faux-leather or something that won't let water soak through like my current 'janes. Searching online I discovered that I can actually find heels cheaper than a pair of decent flat mary-janes. Make sense? Didn't think so. I never get a chance to go shoe shopping in stores so I'm not sure where I'll get them...

My mary-jane preference (other than being water resistant) are obviously price, since I don't want to spend a vast amount on a pair of plane shoes, and a rounded toe. Absolutely must have a nice rounded toe.
  • Rounded to
  • Inexpensive, preferably under $30 Cdn.
  • Water resistant, no canvas or such fabrics.
  • Flats, no heels...a slight platform would be fine by me.

For how much shopping I actually do, I know nothing about actual stores or places to go nearby. I do all my shopping online and this is probably the first time I haven't really been able to find something I'm looking for in the price range I'd like. I've seen a few pairs that seem OK, but nothing I'd get excited about.

Sooo, should you know of a shop online that has mary-janes, whose shipping to Canada is reasonable, and accepts paypal, give me a shout.

So it begins..

Oh yes, and for those of you out there who had signed up for my Around The World book project, I think I can officially say that it's dead. Why? Well, because GreenhandGraphics made excuse after excuse about why he couldn't send it out. No replies, no updates...So after all of that, it never even got past the second place on the list. To those of you who were looking forward to the project, I'm very sorry, but he ruined it for us all. Feel free to send your complaits over to him...yea, I went there. People like that need to know there is consequences to being a dick face.

Sorry again, I hope everyone is enjoying their spring.

Oh, Oh, I love you Orange

I've been wanting to get an 'in between' sized bag for a while now, my bags are either a bit big (messenger bags) or too small (hand bags). While mindlessly browsing on ebay I came across the most lovely orange bag in the size more suited to every day. Well, at least every day for me. It holds enough of my usual little bits, while still leaving more if I pick something up (like the mail).

Here it is, a vintage wonder and fabulous condition.

Yellow & Green

Well, I did it again. I can't resist myself when there's some so colorful for so cheap. For the mere price of $12 (that's included shipping!!) I bought a new pair of crazy shoes. Yellow and green this time, and what a steal for such lovelies. They arrived in the mail the other day, just hadn't gotten around to taking photos.

Love them? Me too.
Get yourself a pair in your own size on ebay from seller peekabooshoe

BoredToBlog

So I'm feeling a tad bored tonight, so what better way to kill some time than to blog about random nonsense?

I went to the theater tonight to see Alice In Wonderland, and quite enjoyed it. The last time I was at the theater I believe was last summer, when I saw the last Harry Potter film. So it's been a while. Anyways, that's about the extent of what I've done today, made a new shruggie and went to the theater. I'll have the shrug photographed and up for sale tomorrow, so I guess I can't say I've done nothing at all. Oh, I've also listed a new skirt today. It's plus sized, the first plus sized piece I've done...the first of hopefully more to come. We'll see how things sell first I suppose.

For those of you out there like me who love hard to find older films, be sure to check out The Video Beat. Last year while searching out a few old flicks that I just couldn't seem to find, I came across this site and I couldn't be more amazed with it. It has crazy lots of films, most of which I don't know...but there were a few gems that I've been looking for and are hard (or impossible) to find anywhere else. Before Christmas I purchased Life Begins At 17, a great film that I would highly recommend. They were the only place I could find it. Just yesterday I ordered a groovy flick, The Strawberry Statement. So what I'm getting at is that if your like me and love some of these hard to find flicks, check out that site, chances are if there's a film you've been looking for and can't seem to find, they might just have it.

GruesomeTwosome

So The Winnipeg Sun is holding a contest for meet and greet tickets to the upcoming Alice Cooper/Rob Zombie show, naturally I was excited and thought I'd try my hand. You never know until you try, right? They aren't anything spectacular or impressive...but I had to give it a go. So here they are. Both done by hand...the stitching practically killed my fingers, but I love how it looks.

Sweets Success

I have successfully made some tasty brownies. No over-baking. I omitted the chocolate chips this time, I didn't care for the chunks they made in the last batch of brownies.

Looks tasty huh? I know. Wondering about the recipe are you? No problem ^.^

Ingredients
1 cup butter, melted

3 cups white sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

4 eggs

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips (optional)

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  2. Combine the melted butter, sugar, and vanilla in a large bowl. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each, until thoroughly blended.
  3. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually stir the flour mixture into the chocolate mixture until blended. Stir in the chocolate chips if desired. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  4. Bake in preheated oven until an inserted toothpick comes out clean, 35 to 40 minutes. Remove, and cool pan on wire rack before cutting.
I made half the recipe, I can't eat nearly that many brownies, hehe. Give it a try, they are quite tasty :)

Recipe can also be found here.

Happy Baking

FabFloor

Well, my Dad didn't blow a shit fit at my over the floor, but he wasn't happy about it either. Deep down I think he'll warm to it. It gives the room a great old style feel that I think suits this house perfectly. It's a little piece of house history. So, here's a few before and afters for ya :)

I'm happy with it :) There's an old old old rug in the middle of the room now, just adding to it's cute cottage shabby chicness ^.^ I can't get enough..

Floored

So while the cats away, the mice will play...or so they say. I guess for me it's true. We're selling our house, and I can't tell you how dated and 80s it looks to me...We've had it up for sale for about a year now, we show it a lot, but no offers as of yet. It's a small town so selling here is pretty slow anyways, but we want to move. I've been telling my Dad all sorts of ways we can improve it but naturally he just won't listen. So approximately 3 minutes after he left for work tonight, I started ripping up the carpet in my sewing room/the second bedroom. It was a horrid dirty, worn, past it's prime pink carpet (the photo below actually makes it look better than it was :S) and underneath was painted hardwood.

Will he blow a fit when he gets home (about 20 minutes)...I don't know. Slightly worried, and yet...I feel like I've done the right thing. People looking around can see there is hardwood under this horrid dated carpet on our second floor, or a cleared away floor ready for new carpet. Either way, I'd say I did the right thing.

I'd really like opinions here.
It's a 1948 house, this is the original flooring. It's been painted over twice obviously, and underneath that you can see it was once finished to match the hardwood that is on the main floor. I think it has a lovely country cottage feel, but perhaps that's just me? We shall see...

Sales Success

After putting up the prices on my orange bag on etsy today, it was almost instantly sold! So that was a great start to my day. I listed another vintage bag, this one my Gramma gave me to sell a year ago, and I've finally gotten around to listing it.

Afterwards, I felt it was in order to take a new photo or two of a hat I've had listed for a little while now. The old ones were ok, but I felt something a bit brighter and cheery would be best :)
This one is also up for sale on my etsy.

Happy Spring days for all ^.^

Artcraft

Well, I took the plunge, putting my vintage orange Artcraft handbag up for sale in my etsy shop. I had bought it for myself a year ago, but didn't use it nearly as much as it should be. So alas, I'm putting it up in hopes to find it a loving home. For a price of $23.45 USD plus shipping, that little lovely can be yours.

Pre Party Packs

I finally listed my first party pack on etsy the other day. It's fairly simple, but I quite like the variety in it. I'll be putting together more hopefully soon. In the mean time, here's the first one up. There is a vintage tea cup included in this one, I'll be keeping an eye open for more teacups to include in future sets :)

BirthdaysPast

My birthday was on Friday, so naturally I decorated. I didn't have a party or anything, so it was just for my sheer enjoyment, but nonetheless, I liked how it turned out.
I pulled together a few Wonderland themed items, and think it was subtle, but lovely. I made the little paper coaster/place settings, the eat me/drink me tags, the pink flamingos, and stained all the photos. I found a bunch of old frames that were lying around the house, put the wonderland photos in those. We had a number of old skeleton keys, so I hung them from the light fixture. There were cards all over the place and I put paper mushrooms in the plant pots around the house ^.^
